Get Your AC Ready for the Summer Heat: A Quick Homeowner Checklist

As the temperatures start to rise, now’s the perfect time to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep your home cool and comfortable all summer long. Whether you have a traditional heat pump system or a ductless mini-split, taking a few simple steps can make a big difference in performance, efficiency, and avoiding those dreaded midsummer breakdowns.

If you live in areas like Pittsburgh, Cranberry Twp, or Butler, these tips will help keep your system running strong when the summer heat hits.

Here’s a quick checklist to help you prepare:

1. Check and Replace Air Filters

Dirty filters restrict airflow and make your system work harder than it needs to. For both heat pump and ductless systems, check your filters and clean or replace them according to the manufacturer's specifications.

2. Clean Around Outdoor Units

Make sure your outdoor condenser unit, for both central and ductless systems, is clear of leaves, dirt, and debris. Trim back any shrubs or plants at least two feet around the unit for proper airflow.

3. Inspect the Thermostat

Check your thermostat settings and test to make sure it’s accurately controlling the temperature. If it’s an older model, consider upgrading to a programmable or smart thermostat for better efficiency.

4. Look Over Vents and Indoor Units

For central systems, make sure all supply and return vents are open and unblocked. For ductless systems, clean the indoor unit filters and wipe down the exterior of the unit.

5. Listen and Watch for Warning Signs

Unusual noises, inconsistent cooling, or rising energy bills could signal an issue. Don’t ignore these signs—address them early to avoid bigger problems down the road.

6. Schedule a Professional Maintenance Visit

While these DIY tips help, it’s always best to schedule a professional AC maintenance appointment. Our trained technicians service communities throughout Western PA, including Zelienople, Grove City, and Meadville.

7. Consider Joining Our Peace of Mind Club

When you become a Peace of Mind Club member, your membership includes scheduled maintenance visits so you don’t have to worry about keeping track—we’ll take care of it for you. It’s the easiest way to protect your system and extend the life of your equipment. Leave the worry to us.
